Throughout the summer, DartmouthSports.com will be focusing on members of the Class of 2025 who are currently in their "Sophomore Summers" presented by the Norwich Inn.
This installment focuses on
Julia Reglewski of the women's track & field team.
DartmouthSports.com: What have you been doing during your sophomore summer?
Julia Reglewski: This summer has been very busy for me! I am continuing my off-season training with the Track and Field team and taking three courses: Bio 13, Physics 03, and a really cool literature class called Haunted Houses in American Literature. I also am shadowing at the DHMC because I am pre-med and still working with my research group at Geisel where we research peripheral nerve regeneration. In short, my summer has been jam-packed! I am also very fortunate to be roomies with my best friends, some of whom are on the Track and Field team as well. Very excited to see what happens this summer!
DS: What was it in the recruiting process that sold you on Dartmouth?
JR: My recruiting process was a very interesting one. Essentially, I was recruited by all the Ivy's and knew I wanted to go to one of them, but I was very unsure of which one. However, I remember distinctly having a zoom call with the Dartmouth thrower's squad and knew that I belonged at Dartmouth immediately. The team made me so comfortable and made me feel as if I was a part of the Big Green family right away. Looking back on it, I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to come to Dartmouth! I absolutely love the people and experiences I have had here.
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
JR: I would most definitely swap places with
Maya Grudman as she is a pole vaulter on the Track and Field team. She is super devoted and passionate about pole vault, making me really want to give it a try. It looks very cool and fun, however a bit scary as you have to fall from a high height. Maya makes it look so easy that she has convinced me to want to give it a try!
DS: Outside of sports, what are you most passionate about?
JR: I am really passionate about cars as I grew up as a mechanic and detailer at my Dad's shop. It's made me love being around cars and working on it. Getting that here at Dartmouth has been tough, but I always find a couple minutes to work on my car in A lot.
DS: What are your plans for your upcoming off-term?
JR: My plans for my upcoming off-term this fall is to do my research full-time and be in off-season training with my teammates. I love my research and being involved in finding out the molecular mechanisms of axonal systems in the body. I am also super excited to be a captain for the first time in the fall and welcome the 27s to campus.
DS: What are your post-Dartmouth plans?
JR: As of right now, I plan on taking a gap year and working somewhere in the medical field. After my gap year, I plan on going to medical school.
DS: Other than your parents, who has had the greatest influence on your life?
JR: Easily my grandparents have had the greatest influence on my life, as they are immigrants who made a great life for our family. Because of them, I had the opportunity to follow my dreams as an athlete and a student, which is part of the reason I ended up at Dartmouth. If it wasn't for them, I truly would not be here right now, and will forever be grateful for their hardworking and loving demeanors. Thank you Babcia and Dziadzia!
DS: What your favorite place on campus?
JR: As of right now, my favorite place on campus is the river. I love to sit by it or be swimming in it! It is a super peaceful place and an amazing place to hang out with others. I highly recommend having a picnic next to the river, it is electric.
