The fall season is winding down just as the winter sports are ramping up. On senior weekend in Leede arena a sophomore, Nicole Liddle led the way to two wins against Ivy rivals Cornell and Columbia. Men's Hockey also swept their opponents downing Brown and Yale on the road. Another sophomore, Drew O'Connor, had three goals and three assists, moving into the team's scoring lead with nine points overall.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Cape Air Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Cape Air Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Drew O’Connor, So., Chatham, N.J., F, Men's Hockey
The second-year winger broke through in a big way, leading the men’s hockey team to a weekend sweep on the road of Yale and Brown. In both games, O’Connor finished with three points, making him the highest-scoring player in not only ECAC Hockey, but the entire nation this weekend. His three goals were also tied for the most by any player in Division I over the course of the weekend. He started the trip with his first goal of the season and a pair of helpers in a 4-3 win at Yale, pushing the Big Green’s win streak against the Bulldogs to five games. He followed that up with a two-goal, three-point night in the 4-1 victory at Brown to help Dartmouth to the rare four-point road weekend. He moved into the team’s scoring lead with nine points (3-6-9), doubling his season total in the process.
