ALBANY, N.Y. -- Despite five goals by Dartmouth's
Jamie Coffin (Greenwich, Conn.), the Big Green men's lacrosse team fell to Albany, 9-7, on Tuesday afternoon.
Coffin, a junior, staked Dartmouth to a 1-0 lead after one period, scoring at the 12:54 mark.
The two teams traded goals to start the second period with Albany's Chris Martocchia tying the game at 1-1 before Coffin answered for a 2-1 lead with 4:42 until the half. But the Great Danes scored four goals in a two-minute stretch for a 5-2 advantage at halftime.
That proved to be the difference as Albany had four second-half goals to Dartmouth's five, sending the Big Green to a 3-2 record. The Great Danes are 4-2.
Also scoring for Dartmouth were juniors
Brad Heritage (Cheshire, Conn.) and
Ryan Danehy (N. Billerica, Mass.).
Dartmouth outshot the Great Danes, 34-22, but Albany goalkeeper Kevin Rae made 15 saves, including eight in the fourth quarter.
For the Big Green, senior
Andrew Goldstein (Milton, Mass.) had eight stops.
Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday, April 2, hosting Notre Dame in a 2:30 p.m. game at Scully-Fahey Field.
