PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Dartmouth junior
Ryan Danehy (N. Billerica, Mass.) scored the gamewinning goal as the No. 12 Big Green men's lacrosse team edged Penn, 8-7, in Ivy League play on Sunday.
Dartmouth improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the Ivy League, while the Quakers are 1-9 on the year and 0-5 in the conference.
Danehy's goal came just 52 seconds into the fourth quarter, giving Dartmouth an 8-4 lead before Penn roared back with three goals in a six-minute span from 9:12 to 3:08.
After the Quakers took a 1-0 lead in the first quarter on Patrick Rogers' unassisted tally, the Big Green answered with a big second period.
Junior
Jamie Coffin (Greenwich, Conn.) and sophomore
Nick Bonacci (Crofton, Md.) each scored twice in a five-goal outburst for Dartmouth as the Big Green took a 5-2 lead into the break.
Bonacci also had two assists on the afternoon, and rounding out the scoring for Dartmouth were senior
Ben Grinnell (Waccabuc, N.Y.), junior
Brad Heritage (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior
Ben Lovejoy (Canaan, N.H.), each with one goal.
In the nets for Dartmouth was senior
Andrew Goldstein who made seven saves. For Penn, Denis Cole had 14 stops.
The Big Green returns home on Saturday, April 16, hosting Cornell in a 1 p.m. matchup at Scully-Fahey Field.
