HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth women's volleyball made history tonight in its win over Ivy rival Harvard. The Big Green downed the Crimson in three games, the first time that has ever happened. Led by Jess Thomas (Tampa, Fla.) and Sarah Nadler (Santa Clara, Calif.) with 13 kills the Big Green held the Crimson to a .169 hitting percentage. With the win Dartmouth improves to 6-3 and Harvard falls to 2-6. Game scores were 30-22, 30-22, 30-28.
Thomas led Dartmouth to five straight points in the final game to bring the Big Green from a 25-28 deficit. She added six digs and two blocks in the victory. Nadler had a double-double adding 13 digs to her 13 kills. Katie Hirsch had a game-high 27 assists and she added three service aces.
Dartmouth led game one from the first serve. The Big Green went up 10-4 before Harvard clawed its way back. Katie Turley-Molony served the Crimson to five straight points as the lead was cut to 11-8. Dartmouth continued to score, going up 23-16 before taking the 30-22 win.
In the second game Harvard jumped out to an early 5-2 lead. Sandy Barbut's (Newport Beach, Calif.) serving tied the score at 6-6 and Dartmouth never relinquished the lead.
Game three was a different story as Harvard controlled from the very beginning. It was point for point before the Crimson pulled ahead, 20-18, as Sarah Cebron scored four. Leading, 25-24, Harvard scored three straight before Thomas' heroic serving gave Dartmouth the win.
