DURHAM, N.H. -- The Dartmouth field hockey team knocked off New Hampshire, 2-1, to record their third win of the season and second in a row.
The first half of this non-league game provided an explosion of offense on both sides of the field. Just eight minutes in the Big Green struck first when junior Lizzie Bildner (Manchester, Mass.) found the back of the net for her seventh time this season as she tipped in a shot from Leigh Rorick (Toledo, Ohio) beating Wildcats goalie Marguax Shute.
It didnt take long for the Wildcats to claw their way back as Emily Colton evened the score when she batted in a loose ball in front of the Dartmouth cage.
But the Big Green broke free from the Wildcat defense in the 22nd minute when junior Katy Hagy (Bedford, N.H.) found herself on a breakaway and pulled the ball around Shute to give the Big Green a 2-1 lead.
Dartmouth dominated the second half out shooting the Wildcats 7-3. The Big Green were backed in net by junior Ashley Heist (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) who turned away seven shots by the Wildcats. New Hampshire's Shute was able to stop nine for the Wildcats.
With the weekend sweep the Big Green move to 3-5, while New Hampshire falls to 1-10. The Big Green move back to their Ivy League schedule as they will host Yale on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Scully-Fahey Field. Game time is set for noon.
