Winston-Salem, N.C. -- The No. 2 ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons, behind a three-goal game from Chelsea Cipriani, knocked off the Big Green, 8-0, in a non-league contest on Sunday.
It took just two mintues for the Demon Deacons to show why they're one of the top programs in the country as Minou Gimbrere took a pass from Tracey Scott in front of the circle and beat Big Green net minder Ashley Heist (Bryn Mawr, Pa.).
Not two minutes later, sophomore Christine Suggs netted her first goal of the day as she beat a Dartmouth defender and laced a shot into the lower right corner. Her second goal of the day, and 13th this season came in the 21st minute when she picked up a rebound in front of the Dartmouth cage and beat Heist to give Wake Forest a 3-0 lead.
Cipriani, a junior forward, notched her first goal of the day with just two minutes remaining in the first half, as she took a pass from Tracey and rifled a reverse-stick shot past Heist.
In the first half the Big Green were out shot 17-2, and counted upon Heist who recorded seven saves in the first period.
Cipriani buried her second goal off one of the Deacons eight penalty corner oppurtunities early in the second half. Then one minute later senior defender Jamie Whitten got on the board as she picked up a loose ball and beat Heist to give Wake a 6-0 lead.
Cipriani picked up the hat trick in the 46th minute when she ripped a shot from the far corner beating Heist to the lower left side.
Sophomore Jordan Sedlacek (Golden, Colo.) relieved Heist late in the second half, but gave up the last of the Deacons goals to junior Lauren Love in the 66th minute. Heist ended the match recording 15 saves, while Sedlacek stopped three Wake Forest chances.
On the whole, the Big Green were out shot 34-4 in 70 minutes of play. Junior Lizzie Bildner (Manchester, Mass.) provided the most offense for Dartmouth taking two shots. Wake Forest's goalie, Crystal Duffield, stopped two shots for the shut out.
With the loss the Big Green fall to 3-8, while the Demon Deacons improve to 14-1 on the season.
The Big Green will be in action on Wednesday, Oct. 18, as they host the Catamounts of Vermont at Scully-Fahey Field. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
