Cambridge, Mass. -- Boston University, behind a hat trick from Hayley Hamada, gave the Dartmouth field hockey team its sixth loss in a row on Sunday, winning by a score of 7-0.
Not two minutes into the match, Hamada broke free of the Dartmouth defense and beat Big Green net minder Ashley Heist (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) to give the Terriers an early lead. Hamada recorded her second tally when she tipped in a shot from Sarah Shute ino the lower left-hand side of the cage. Hamada capped off the hat trick just before the end of the first half, as she picked up a loose ball rebound in front of the net and placed it inside the left post past Heist.
In the second half the Big Green made a goalie change and gave sophomore Jordan Sedlacek (Golden, Colo.) some time between the pipes.
The Terrier's wasted little time in the second half before they applied pressure to Sedlacek. BU took a 4-0 lead in the 43rd minute of play as Shute notched her first goal of the game on a pass from Lizzie Perreault. Just 41 seconds later the Terriers struck again, as Pam Spuehler got her name in the scoring column beating Sedlacek from five yards out.
BU's Suus Dekker gave the Terrier's a 6-0 lead, when she rifled a shot from just inside the circle to the right side of the cage. Shute finished the scoring for the Terrier's late in the second half when she caused a turnover in the Dartmouth end and dribbled the ball towards net before finishing a shot to increase the lead to 7-0.
Both Heist and Sedlacek were credited with five saves between them. BU goalie Erin Prediger was only forced to make one save in the shut out victory. The Big Green were out shot 22-4 on the day.
With the victory the Terrier's move to 10-6 on the season, while Dartmouth drops to 3-11.
The Big Green host Harvard on Saturday Oct. 28 at Scully-Fahey Field in their last home Ivy League game. Game time is set for noon.
