Big Green in the Community
Dartmouth College's Athletic community, as a whole, is devoted to giving back to the surrounding community that graciously gives its support and resources to help all of the Big Green's teams achieve success on and off the field. Dartmouth's Men's Lacrosse team is no exception to this enthusiasm for service. Boasting a 100% participation rate in community service activities, these athletes take time out of their busy academic and athletic schedules to give to those who need it the most. The athletes are involved in several different service groups, many of which are focused on spending time with children in the surrounding area.
The scope of the activities that the Men's Lacrosse team is involved in is broad in focus, and the level of and passion for involvement is exceptional. Some of the athletes spend time with patients at the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth, where the patients, families, and staff all enjoy the company of Dartmouth athletes. Many of the team members serve in various programs as mentors for children in the area. Some work with the Indian River Mentoring Service, in which athletes help students at the nearby Indian River Elementary School with homework and with reading. LEAD is another mentoring program where athletes spend time with underprivileged children in the area playing sports and games. Many of the athletes are involved in the Special Olympics program, where they spend time teaching and training young people who have intellectual disabilities in various athletic activities.
The Men's Lacrosse team strongly believes in a commitment to service to foster a healthy relationship between the fans in the community and athletics at Dartmouth. These efforts help to establish these athletes as exemplary role models in the surrounding area, both on and off campus.
