Flushing Meadows, N.Y. - The Dartmouth women's tennis team competed against some of the top teams in the nation at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center College Tennis Invitational, posting some solid results. The duo of Jamie Caplan/Carley Markovitz reached the quarterfinal of the B doubles flight before being stopped by Princeton's Laura Trimble/Kelly Stewart. Rookie Mary Beth Winingham went 2-1 in the B singles flight while classmates Elizabeth Warnack and Julia Zak went 2-1 in the D singles flight.
Winingham downed Darcy Robertson, who played No. 1 for Princeton last year, but was then stopped by second-seeded Laura Peterzan of Harvard. Warnack defeated Princeton's Joanna Roth in the first round, while Zak downed No. 2 seed Felicia Curcuru of Penn in a back draw match on Sunday.
In the A singles flight Lindsay Winingham downed Syracuse's Olga Votavova, while Kerry Snow, playing in Arthur Ashe Stadium, thrilled the fans with her 6-7, 7-6, 10-5 victory over Rutgers' No. 2 player, Dana Gordon.
In the B singles flight, Jesse Adler went 1-2 for the weekend, defeating a player from Army, and Caplan went 1-2 in the C singles flight, downing an opponent from Rutgers. Jen Murray was 2-1 in the D singles flight, with wins over Rutgers and Army. Also in the D flight, Danielle Murray was edged in a three-set, nail-biter by Boston College's Sarah Svoboda.
And in A doubles, Winingham and Snow went 2-1, defeating a team from Penn in the first round before falling to the No. 4 seeds from N.C. State.
The Big Green will be in action again this weekend, hosting the ITA Regionals here in Hanover.
