TEACHING
Each student will receive expert instruction from members of theELIGIBILITY
The Dartmouth Swim School is open to the public.
WHAT TO BRING
Bring a swim suit and a towel
(optional - goggles and cap)
COST:
$75 for all five sessions
WHERE TO COME AND SIT:
The pools are located in the east side of the Alumni Gym main entrance (Wheelock Street).
Parents may observe the classes from the stands. No parents on deck please.
TIMES:
The Dartmouth Swim School will run Monday through Friday
CLASS 1 - 4:30 - 5:00 pm
CLASS 2 - 5:10 - 5:40 pm
Class 3 - 5:50 - 6:20 pm
* No Make-ups for missed classes
*No Substitution of Students
ABILITY LEVELS:
•PARENT & CHILD (4:30 & 5:10 classes only)
Parent attendance in the water is required.
Ages 3 and younger, familiarizing your child with the water and basic skills such as:
Blowing bubbles
Floating on front and back
Kicking
General preparation for beginner classes.
•BEGINNER 1- Ages 4 and older.
Prerequisite - None.
Students will learn to:
Fully submerge face in water
Bob in the water 15 times
Front float and kick 15 feet
Back float and kick 15 feet
Roll from front to back
•BEGINNER 2
Prerequisite - Beginner 1 skills
Students will learn to:
Swim freestyle 20 feet
Swim backstroke 15 feet
Jump into shallow water
Retrieve objects from the bottom
Breathe to the side
•ADVANCED BEGINNER
Prerequisite - Beginner 2 skills
Students will learn to:
Swim freestyle with side breathing, 15 yards (1/2 pool).
Swim backstroke 15 yards, (1/2 pool)
Jump into deep water and swim to the side
Swim one length of the pool
Swim underwater 5 feet
•INTERMEDIATE 1
Prerequisite - Advanced Beginner skills
Students will learn:
Freestyle with side breathing 25 yards
Backstroke 25 yards
Components of breaststroke
Treading
To surface dive & swim underwater 10 feet
To dive into deep water
•INTERMEDIATE 2
Prerequisite - Intermediate 1 skills
Students will learn:
Freestyle with side breathing 50 yards
Backstroke 50 yards
Coordinated breaststroke 25 yards
Open turns
Components of butterfly
•SWIMMER 1
Prerequisite - Intermediate 2 skills
Students will:
Refine freestyle and swim 100 yards
Refine backstroke and swim 100 yards
Refine breaststroke and swim 50 yards
Swim coordinated butterfly 25 yards
Perform flip turns
•SWIMMER 2
Prerequisite - Swimmer 1 skills
Students will learn to:
Refine all competitive strokes with stroke drills
Swim butterfly 50 yards
Swim individual medley 100 yards
Learn racing starts
Learn racing turns
Practice use of pace clock
•SPRINGBOARD DIVING -
Must be 8 years old, comfortable in deep water, and able to dive (head first) from the side of the pool.
Students will learn:
Diving approach and hurdle
Front dive, back dive
Front somersault
Back somersault.
