NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Freshman goalie Pat Marshall (Lutherville, Md.) made 15 saves for the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team, but it wasn't enough as No. 11 Notre Dame held on for an 8-7 victory on Sunday.
The Big Green (4-4 overall) held a 4-2 lead after the first quarter, before the Fighting Irish had two second period goals by Brian Hubschmann for a 4-4 deadlock at halftime.
The two teams traded goals at the start of the third period, and for Dartmouth, senior Brad Heritage (Cheshire, Conn.) scored his second of the game for a 6-5 Big Green lead midway through the period.
Notre Dame (6-2) came back for a 7-6 lead at the end of three, before Michael Podgajny gave the Irish an insurance marker just four seconds into the fourth quarter.
Senior Alec Hufnagel (Scarsdale, N.Y.) got Dartmouth within one, 8-7, with 11:37 to go in regulation.
For the Big Green, junior Nick Bonacci (Crofton, Md.) had one goal and two assists, while senior Jamie Coffin (Greenwich, Conn.) had one goal and one assist. Also scoring for Dartmouth were freshman Brian Koch (Rye, N.Y.) and senior Sean Anthony (Canandaigua, N.Y.), both with one goal.
Dartmouth begins the Ivy League season on Saturday, April 8, hosting Penn in a 1 p.m. game at Scully-Fahey Field.
