HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth's baseball team lost its season finale this afternoon, falling to Boston College, 9-6. The Big Green ends the year with a 20-19 record.
The two teams traded runs in the first. The Eagles used two singles to put runners on the corners with one out, then got on the board with an RBI groundout by Dave Preziosi. Dartmouth answered with two singles of its own. Freshman Jonathon Santopadre (Vacaville, Calif.) led off the inning with a walk and junior Andrew Nacario (Carlsbad, Calif.) followed that with a single to right field. Two outs later, freshman Raymond Allen (Longwood, Fla.) drove him in with another single to right to knot the game, 1-1.
The Big Green went up, 2-1, in the second on sophomore Erik Bell's (Sierra Madre, Calif.) single to left. After Boston College tied it in the top of the third, Dartmouth went back ahead in the bottom of the inning. Junior Will Bashelor (Bozrah, Conn.) singled and advanced to second on a throwing error by the right fielder. Sophomore Damon Wright (Dallas, Texas) singled to put runners on the corners, then Allen reached on a fielding error to drive in Bashelor. Two straight walks then drove in Wright to put Dartmouth up, 4-2, but the Eagles escaped further damage with a strikeout and a double play to end the inning.
Boston College (26-21-1) got an unearned run in the fourth to make it a one-run game, but Dartmouth added two following the stretch to up its lead. Senior Tommy Myette (Parrish, Fla.) had an RBI-double, then scored o n a single to left by freshman Michael Pagliarulo (Winchester, Mass.) to increase the Big Green's lead, 6-3.
But the Eagles fought back, scoring five runs on five hits in the eighth to take the lead for good. Catcher Jett Ruiz hit a two-run single to left field to bring the Eagles within one and Johnny Ayers singled to right to tie the game, 6-6. Pete Frates put them ahead with a sacrifice fly to deep left field, and Jared McGuire gave Boston College some insurance with another run-scoring single to make the score, 8-6. They added an unearned run in the ninth to account for the final margin.
Sophomore Russell Young (Cleburne, Texas) took the loss in relief to fall to 3-3 on the season. Nick Asselin (3-1) earned the victory for Boston College.
