Red Rolfe Field is regarded as one of the finest college baseball fields in the East. For more than a century, the field has been home to the Dartmouth baseball program. In 1971, the field was formally named in honor of Robert A. "Red" Rolfe '31. Rolfe was an outstanding player who went on to earn fame with the New York Yankees as a third baseman. He played 10 years with the Yankees and compiled a .289 batting average with 69 career home runs.
Rolfe later managed four years with the Detroit Tigers, compiling a .521 winning percentage. In 1954, he returned to Hanover to become Director of Athletics from 1954-67.
