HANOVER, N.H. -- The Dartmouth field hockey team looked to carry its momentum after the overtime win over UMass into the Eagles nest, but the No. 9 ranked team in the nation powered their way over the Big Green 5-1 on Sunday in Newton, Mass.
The Big Green hung with the Eagles well into the first half, but in the 15th minute the Eagles took advantage of one of thier five penalty corners on the day as Lauren Parks struck a shot past Big Green net minder Ashley Heist (Bryn Mawr, Pa.). Just six minutes later, Parks found the back of the net again as she rifled a shot from the top of the circle.
The Big Green came out in the second half down 2-0, but applied pressure. But again it was Boston College who found the net three more times to take a 5-0 lead late in the second half.
Freshman Allison Weinstock (Pittsburgh, Pa.) runied the Eagles chance at a shut out in the 55th minute of play as she drove a shot from right in front of the cage beating Eagles goalie Julie Berkowitz to record her first collegiate goal.
Big Green sophomore Jordan Sedlacek (Golden, Colo.) took over for Heist, who ended the night making five saves, and allowed zero goals. The ranked Eagles out shot Dartmouth 17-10 on the day and advanced to 8-2 overall on the season, while the Big Green now move to 1-5.
The Big Green will host Ivy League opponent Penn in their next contest on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Scully-Fahey Field. Game time is scheduled for noon.
