Albuquerque, N.M. - The Dartmouth women's volleyball team dropped its first game of the season as Cal State Fullerton swept the Big Green, 3-0, in the first day of the Comcast Lobo Volleyball Tournament at the University of New Mexico's Johnson Center Friday afternoon.
The Big Green got off to a slow start losing the first game, 30-12 but bounced back in Game Two, staying up with the Titans falling, 30-26. Fullerton took control of the match again winning the third game 30-19. The contest was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Fullerton out-hit Dartmouth .270 to -.024, with strong attack percentages of .407 and .33 in the first and third games of the match.
Defensively, Dartmouth's Amanda Marston (Austin, Texas) led the team wiith 11 digs, while teammate Katie Hirsch (Austin, Texas) added 9 along with 26 assists.
Jess Thomas (Tampa, Fla.) was The Big Green's leading hitter, manufacturing 9 kills while Nadine Parris (Plymouth, Minn.) was best at the net for Dartmouth, taking part in a pair of blocks to lead the team.
"I am happy with the way we came out," head coach Ann Marie Larese said. "I was impressed with the way our middle blockers played. I am extremely optimistic."
Dartmouth will take on host New Mexico Saturday at noon and then UTEP at 4:30 pm.
