HANOVER, N.H. - Senior captain Andrew Berry (Middleton, Wis.) was the highlight for the men's swimming and diving team at the UNLV Invitational as he placed first in the 1-meter dive.
Dartmouth finished in eighth place among 17 teams with a team score of 147. The University of California at Santa Barbara earned the top spot with a team score of 740.
Berry finished with a score of 266.35, which was nine points away from his next competitor, and was first out of 22 other divers. In the 3-meter dive, he finished third with a scored of 233.55. Freshman Michael Brown (Newton, Mass.) had a good showing, finishing in sixth in both diving events.
On the swimming side, juniors Kevin Ellis (Centennial, Colo.) and Porter Diehl (West Windsor, N.J.) were a great one-two punch in the freestyle events. Each of them placed in the 200-yard, 500-yard and 1650-yard freestyle events, with Porter finishing in a team-high fifth place in the 1650-yard freestyle.
Senior Gordon Russell (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) also contributed with finals finishes in the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke and 200-backstroke. His top finish came in the 200-yard event as he was able to swim to an eighth place finish.
Dartmouth will be off for the holidays and will be traveling to Ireland for the Big Green's annual training trip from December 27 to January 5. The Dartmouth men return to Karl Michael Poll on January 12 against Boston University, beginning at 1 p.m.
