HANOVER, N.H. - Head coach
Bob Whalen and the Dartmouth baseball team announced its 2008 schedule today as the Big Green will be looking for its fourth division championship since 2000.
On the 43 game slate this year, the Big Green's schedule features fourteen contests at Red Rolfe Field, where Dartmouth has posted 15 wins since 2005. The schedule also includes the team's traditional Spring Trip, which this year includes a 10-game swing through the state of Florida.
The season kicks off with the team's first ever trip to Annapolis, as the Midshipmen of Navy host the Big Green for a four game set March 1-2.
After a brief hiatus due to final examinations, Dartmouth will return to Florida for the second consecutive season. Ten games against nine different opponents await the team in Bradenton at IMG Academy. Highlighted on the trip will be solo games against Ohio State (March 16), last year's Big Ten champions, and the University of Kansas (March 20).
The Big Green entertains the University of Pennsylvania, last year's winner of the Lou Gehrig Division, in the home opener April 5 for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. The Lions of Columbia travel to Hanover the following day before the home stand concludes on Wednesday the April 9, with a single contest against the Vermont Catamounts.
A trip to the Ivy Championship series starts with a division championship, and that road begins with a trip to Providence and a four game series against last year's Ivy League champion, Brown University.
Six of the final eight Ivy League games will be played in the friendly confines of Red Rolfe Field, as Yale (April 19-20) and Harvard (April 27) both make appearances in Hanover. The conclusion of the 2008 regular season comes against the Eagles of Boston College April 30.
