Women's Tennis Knocks Off UMass

The Dartmouth women's tennis team downed the University of Massachusetts 4-3 tonight at the Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion. The Minutewomen came out strong, winning the doubles point with 8-5 victories at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Junior Natalie O'Rourke and freshman Jesse Adler won the lone doubles match for the Big Green, with an 8-0 victory at No. 3.
Dartmouth bounced back quickly in singles. Senior co-captain Kerry Snow, Adler, and freshman Carley Markovitz all won handily at No. 4, 5, and 6 singles. At No. 1 singles, junior Megan Zebroski ran into a tough opponent in Michele Spiess, and fell in straight sets. With Dartmouth up 3-2, freshman Mary Beth Winingham clinched the match for the Big Green with a straight set win at No. 2 singles. Senior co-captain Lindsay Winingham was still on the court and, after battling back to win the second set, ended up falling in a third set super-breaker.
The Big Green return to action tomorrow against the Minnesota Golden Gophers at noon.
