No. 14 North Carolina Defeats Dartmouth Men's Lacrosse, 12-6
Boxscore
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Dartmouth senior Nick Bonacci (Crofton, Md.) scored two goals and set up another, but the Big Green men's lacrosse team fell to No. 14 North Carolina, 12-6, Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Ari Sussman (Windsor, Conn.) also added a pair of goals. Dartmouth fell behind, 4-2, after one period, and the Tar Heels gradually pulled away as Michael Burns and Ben Hunt each scored three times.
"It was difficult for us to adapt early in the game," said Dartmouth coach Bill Wilson. "We made some adjustments at halftime, but it was too much to overcome."
Wilson also pointed to faceoffs as a key, where UNC won 19 of the 22, and ground balls where the Tar Heels held a 54-38 advantage. "They were more dominant on the ground balls," said Wilson, "and they dominated on the faceoffs."
Rounding out the scoring for Dartmouth were sophomore Brian Koch (Rye, N.Y.) and senior Wilson Handler (Weston, Conn.), both with one goal.
In the nets, freshman goalkeeper Michael Novosel (Somers, N.Y.) picked up the second start of his collegiate career, making 13 saves in 57:35. In relief, sophomore Pat Marshall (Lutherville, Md.) made one.
UNC improved to 3-0 on the season. Dartmouth, 0-2, opens the home portion of the 2007 campaign on Saturday, March 3, hosting Fairfield at 3:30 p.m.
