HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth senior Lizzie Bildner (Manchester, Mass.) added her second goal of the game with 7:54 remaining in overtime to propel the Big Green past Maine, 3-2, in the season opener at Scully Fahey Field on Friday afternoon.
Dartmouth got on the scoreboard first as Stef Miller (South Plainfield, N.J.) sent a pass into the middle that was put in by Bildner with just over eight minutes to play in the first half. Maine, however, came right back with a goal from Kim MacDonald with the assist awarded to Brittney Cummings.
The Big Green answered two minutes after Maine tied it as freshman Virginia Peisch (Koenigstein, Germany) got a rebound off of the goaltender and found the back of the net to put Dartmouth back on top going into halftime.
The two teams played even in the second half until Maine received a penalty corner and capitalized with a goal from Jackie D'Amato after a nice stick stop and pass from Amy Zdrojesky.
In the extra frame, each team had opportunities to score and Dartmouth was able to come out on top as Bildner broke in from the right side and tucked it into the near corner to give the Big Green their first win of the season in the home opener.
"I'm so proud of our players," said head coach Amy Fowler. "After a tough season a year ago, it's great for our returning players because they worked hard this preseason and it's good for the freshmen to get a taste of victory at the start."
Dartmouth will be back in action this coming Sunday at 2 p.m. as they face-off against Syracuse at Scully Fahey Field.
