HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth field hockey team netted two second-half goals but it wasn't enough as Yale scored in the extra session to earn the 3-2 win over the Big Green in Ivy action.
For Yale (3-8, 1-3 Ivy), Ashley McCauley and Mia Rosati led the way with a goal and an assist apiece as the two connected on the game-winner by McCauley. Dinah Landshut added a goal for the Bulldogs, while goalkeeper Katie Bolling made two saves to earn her third win.
For Dartmouth (3-8, 2-2 Ivy), senior co-captain Ashley Hines (Newburyport, Mass.) posted a goal and an assist, while freshman Jessica Chen (Houston, Texas) recorded her first collegiate goal. Freshman goalkeeper Meagan Vakiener pushed aside 10 shots in the defeat for the Big Green.
Yale got on the board first as McCauley broke through the midfield and found Rosati streaking to the net. Rosati then made a move on Vakiener and scored to put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0, 9:06 into the contest.
The score stayed the same through halftime and with 18:39 remaining in the second half, Chen evened the score with her first goal of the season. Hines was to the right of the circle and fired a pass through the crease that Chen chipped over Bolling to tie the score at one.
Just over six minutes later, Yale took the lead again on a penalty corner. Katie Cantore provided the stick-stop and shoveled a pass to Landshut and she blasted a shot passed Vakiener to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.
Dartmouth answered again less than two minutes after Yale took the lead. Once again it was the Big Green's strength this season that brought them back in the game as Hines scored on Dartmouth's third penalty corner of the game. She received a pass from McCormick and fired a shot through traffic and into the back of the net to tie the game at two.
Yale, however, took control in the overtime and 4:31 into the extra session the pressure paid off. Rosati drove the end line into the crease and some in the scrum McCauley found the ball and beat Vakiener for the win.
The Bulldogs outshot the Big Green, 20-10, and had an 11-4 advantage in penalty corners.
The Big Green will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as Dartmouth hosts No. 15 Louisville at Chase Field, beginning at 12 p.m.
