HANOVER, N.H. - Freshman Kelly Hood (Berlin, N.H.) led a seven-goal attack with three tallies to push the Dartmouth field hockey team past Bryant, 7-1, in a non-conference matchup at Chase Field.
Hood was one of four goal scorers for the Big Green. Sophomore Rebecca Sobel (Larchmont, N.Y.) added her fourth of the season and posted an assist, while senior co-captain Ashley Hines (Newburyport, Mass.) chipped in with her fourth goal of the year and also recorded two assists.
Sophomore Kelly McHenry (Williamsburg, Va.) was Dartmouth's fourth goal scorer with her third of the season. Classmate Virginia Peisch (Koenigstein, Germany) inched closer to the Big Green's single season record for assists with another helper to give her 11 on the season, which is three behind the all-time mark.
For Bryant (1-14), Kelly Frantz scored the lone goal in the first half with the assist credited to Caitlin Johnson. Kundayi Mawema got the start in net for the Bulldogs and made four saves, while Jennifer Gullotti took over in the second half and pushed aside seven shots from the Big Green.
Dartmouth (4-9) also got a good effort from freshman Meagan Vakiener (Port Murray, N.J.) who made six saves to earn her fourth win of the season.
The Big Green got off to a great start with three goals in the first 13 minutes and ended up with five first-half tallies to take a 5-1 lead at the half. Dartmouth added two more in the second frame to earn the 7-1 win. The Big Green had their highest shot total of the season, outshooting the Bulldogs 33-13 and posted a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Dartmouth will be back in Ivy League play this coming weekend as the Big Green heads to Columbia for a 12 p.m. start with the Lions.
