NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Senior Rob Henley (Longmeadow, Mass.) led the Big Green in the opening round of the Yale Invitational with a four-over 74 before freshman Pete Williamson (Hanover, N.H.) and sophomore Davis Mullany (Great Barrington, Mass.) took over in
round two with 71s as Dartmouth finished the day in eighth place out of
15 teams. Oklahoma took a slim one-stroke lead at 11-over par through the second round after Sacred Heart shot even par (280) in the first round. Erik Downs of Flagler shot under par in each of his two rounds to lead the field with a four-under 136.
Dartmouth's play was inconsistent in the first round, but sometimes brilliant as displayed by 12 birdies from the squad, topped only by Oklahoma. And no team scored better on the par three holes, combining to shoot three-over par. Unfortunately, the team had the second-fewest pars in the round.
In the second round, all but one of the Big Green five improved their score as the team shot 14 strokes lower. Williamson is the low scorer thus far at seven-over par, good for 23rd, while Mullany is just two strokes behind him at 149, tied for 29th.
Junior Dave Putney (Unionville, Conn.) is in a tie for 32nd with a 150, and senior Alex Abate (Augusta, Ga.) carded a 153.
The final round is slated to take place on Sunday morning.
