HANOVER, N.H. ? The Dartmouth women's soccer team got back on track tonight with a resounding 5-0 victory over Albany, with goals scored by four different players.
Dartmouth dominated the contest from start to finish, outshooting Albany, 23-4 and scoring two goals in the first and three in the second. The Big Green improved to 5-4-1 while the Great Danes dropped to 3-12. Head Coach Angie Hind kept her unbeaten streak against America East teams alive, going 7-0-3 since taking over the reigns in 2005. The Big Green's last five-goal game came on Sept. 17, 2006 with a 5-0 win over Iowa.
The Big Green attacked early and often but a few near misses and a pair of saves by Albany keeper Amber Maisonet in the opening minutes kept Dartmouth off the board.
Dartmouth broke through in the 20th minute when sophomore Meagan Tibbo (Ottowa, Ont.) connected on a header off a corner kick from senior Becky Poskin (Leawood, Kan.). The goal was the first of Tibbo's career. Just under nine minutes later, junior Kelsey Quick (Bernardsville, N.J.) capitalized by burying the ball in the far corner after classmate Myra Sack (Wynnewood, Pa.) pulled Maisonet out of the goal. It was the first goal of the season for Quick, who has three assists this year.
The Big Green took its' 2-0 lead into the half after outshooting the Danes, 15-2, in the period.
Albany brought some energy to the opening minutes of the second half and had its best scoring opportunity of the game in the 47th minute. Katie Grant broke free on the left side and had a one-on-one with Dartmouth goalkeeper
Laurel Peak (Redding, Conn.). Grant fired from near the top of the box and Peak perfectly timed her leap to punch the ball up and out of bounds.
Dartmouth increased its lead in the 58th minute when
Maggie Goldstein scored one of her trademark long-range goals and her first of the season. Senior
Caitlin MacDonald (Pleasanton, Calif.) fed the ball to Goldstein on the right side and the turned and fired a hooking shot that looped over Maisonet's head to make it 3-0.
Sack and Quick combined again for Dartmouth's fourth goal of the game in the 65th minute. Sack fed the ball to Quick from the left side and she beat Maisonet one-on-one and put away a beautiful goal to the far post. The Big Green struck again just over three minutes later and this time it was Sack's turn to shine. Sack hammered a goal from center, just outside the 18 off an assist from Poskin, her second of the night, to make it 5-0, Dartmouth.
Dartmouth was even more efficient in the second half, scoring three goals on eight shots.
Maisonet finished with five saves for Albany while Peak made three to secure the shutout for Dartmouth.
20 different players saw action in the game for the Big Green. Three players scored their first goal of the season and Tibbo made her first collegiate start.
Dartmouth will look to carry this momentum into a big showdown with Ivy foe Yale on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at Burnham Field.
