Box Score
DULUTH, Minn.
? After dropping a tough game last night, the third-ranked Dartmouth women's hockey team had a sluggish
start as Minnesota-Duluth scored two minutes into the game and never looked
back for the 4-1 win over the Big Green.
For Dartmouth
(7-3-1), senior goaltender Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) was the highlight as she
made a career-high 48 saves, including 17 in the second period alone, which
tied a career-high for a single period. Senior Maggie Kennedy (West
Hartford, Conn.) netted the only
goal of the game for the Big Green for her sixth of the season, while senior
co-captain Shannon Bowman (Leamington, Ont.) and freshman Geneva Kliman (Toronto, Ont.) added the
assists.
For Minnesota-Duluth (9-5-2), Haley Irwin once again came
through for the Bulldogs with a pair of scores after scoring last night's
game-tying goal. Jocelyne Larocque picked a great time to pick up her first two
goals of the season with one coming on an empty netter. Pernilla Winberg and Elin
Holmlov owned all the assists on three of the four goals as each posted three
helpers. Duluth
goaltender Kim Martin just missed the shutout, making 25 saves between the
pipes to earn the win.
The Bulldogs started where they left off last night as Irwin
gave them a quick 1-0 lead just 2:41 into the opening period. Assists went to Winberg
and Holmlov. It was Irwin's sixth of the season and second in the series.
The first period was all Duluth as the Bulldogs out shot the Big Green
16-8. Clemis was able to keep Dartmouth
in the game with 15 first-period saves. The Big Green also had the power play
advantage with three chances, but couldn't capitalize.
Minnesota-Duluth increased its lead to 2-0 early in the
second period. Just 15 seconds into the frame Holmlov put a shot on net that
was saved by Clemis, but the rebound came out to Larocque for her first of the
year. Holmlov and Winberg were both credited with their second assists.
Irwin continued to hurt the Big Green as she posted her
second of the night with 2:11 left in the second period. Once again it was
Winberg and Holmlov on the assists.
The second period, like the opening frame, belonged to the Bulldogs.
Duluth had a large advantage in shots at 25-10,
which are the most shots allowed in a single period by Dartmouth this season. The Big Green had its
opportunities on the man advantage as the Bulldogs committed three penalties,
but Dartmouth
couldn't find the net.
Dartmouth
got on the board late in the final period to cut the lead to 3-1. Kliman fired
a shot that was blocked and it was collected by Bowman, who found Kennedy. She
then beat Martin to ruin the shutout for the Duluth netminder. Larocque closed out the
scoring with an empty net goal with one second remaining.
It was the first time in more than two years that the Big
Green was swept in a two-game series on the road. The last time it happened was
the first two games of the 2006-07 season at Mercyhurst.
Dartmouth
will have some time to regroup as the Big Green is not in action until
long-time Ivy League rival Harvard enters Thompson Arena on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
