Dartmouth baseball continued their winning ways on their six-game trip to the Dominican Republic. The Big Green beat the New York Mets baseball academy team 4-0 in a six-inning game. Senior co-captain
Robert Young (Cleburne, Texas) got the start and struck out six in three innings to get the win.
Dartmouth scored one run in the first inning.
Jim Wren (Granbury, Texas) reached first on a fielder's choice and scored when
Nick Santomauro's (North Caldwell, N.J.) single got past the Mets leftfielder.
Dartmouth got two more in the second. Co-captain
Jack Monahan (Overland Park, Kan.) walked and went to third on
Kyle Evans' (Springfield, Mo.) double to left. Monahan came in on a wild pitch and Evans came in on
Jake Carlson's (Woodlands, Texas) single to left.
Dartmouth made it 4-0 in the fourth. Freshman
Joe Sclafani (Palm City, Fla.) reached first on an error and went to third on
Jason Brooks's (Westlake Village, Calif.) double. Sclafani scored when
Evans grounded to short.
Freshman
Marco Mariscal (El Cajon, Calif.) relieved in the fourth. The freshman left hander gave up no hits, struck out three, and picked off a runner in two scoreless innings of work. Sophomore
Ryan Smith (Greenlawn, N.Y.) relieved in the sixth and struck out two to close out the second shutout of the trip.
Dartmouth finishes on Wednesday with one more game against the Mets. Freshman
Kyle Hendricks (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) gets the start. The Big Green fly home on Thursday morning.
