BoxscoreProvidence, R.I. -- Dartmouth men's lacrosse fell behind early and was unable to overcome a tough Brown squad as the Bears took a 9-5 win in the Ivy opener for both teams. The loss drops the Big Green to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in Ivy play. The win lifts Brown to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the league.
Sophomore Zach Caldwell and senior Mike Cummins scored to give Brown a 2-0 lead before a
Towny Swiggett (Huntington, N.Y.) tally put the Big Green on the board, 2-1.
Jonathan Livadas (Wilmington, Del.) had an unassisted shot in the second quarter to make it 5-2 at halftime.
Jimmy Mullen (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) opened the second half with an unassisted tally to bring Dartmouth within two.
Freshman
Adam Boardman (Brattleboro, Vt.) scored his first collegiate point with an assist on
Brian Koch's (Rye, N.Y.) goal at 6:48 of the fourth quarter. Koch has now scored in 23 straight contests. His scoring streak began May 2, 2006. Sophomore
Ari Sussman (New Haven, Conn.) added a goal with a shot 37 seconds later to pull within two again but it wasn't enough. The Bears scored two unanswered for the final score of 9-5.
Dartmouth had a slight lead in faceoffs, winning 9 of 15. Senior
Chad Gaudet (Burlington, Mass.) won 7 of the 10 he took, picking up a team high six groundballs.
Brown goalie Jordan Burke played an outstanding game in net, stopping 17 Big Green shots, including 11 in the first half. Sophomore
Pat Marshall (Lutherville, Md.) and junior
Michael Novosel (Somers, N.Y.) combined for 14 saves for Dartmouth.
The Big Green returns home to Memorial Field on Tuesday for a rescheduled game against Holy Cross. Game time is set for 2:30 pm.
