HANOVER, N.H. ? Dartmouth sophomore
Michael Novosel (Somers, N.Y.) has been named the Ivy League's men's lacrosse Player of the Week.
The 5-11 goalie played his best game of the season, stopping shot after shot as the Big Green upset No. 10 Princeton, 11-10, on Saturday in Hanover. The Tigers came out of the gate quickly, getting off three quick shots, which Novosel turned away. After the Big Green jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Princeton fired four shots on Novosel in less than a minute, with the sophomore coming up with one big save after another to keep the Tigers off the board. The sophomore netminder had 16 saves in the game for a .640 save percentage, including five in the first period and six in the third. His save percentage coming into the game Saturday was a mere .469.
Novosel has a history of rising to the occasion against Princeton, as he has made 33 saves while allowing 22 goals in two career games against the Tigers for a .600 save percentage. His career save percentage against all other teams is .468. As a freshman he earned Ivy Rookie of the Week honors in a 13-6 loss to Princeton with a career high 17 saves.
The Big Green wraps up the 2008 season with a game at Ivy rival Harvard, May 3.
Michael is the son of Elena Hartz and a graduate of Somers High School.
