HANOVER, N.H. ? Dartmouth baseball head coach Bob Whalen was
named the New England Coach of the Year by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball
Association after leading the Big Green to the No. 1 ranking in the region.
Whalen coached Dartmouth
to a 25-17 record this season, along with a 15-5 mark in Ivy League play. The
Big Green won its fourth Red Rolfe Division title since 2000, before falling to
Columbia in the
Ivy League Championship.
Senior co-captain Damon Wright (Dallas,
Texas) and sophomore Nick Santomauro (North Caldwell, N.J.)
were placed on the All-New England first team as two of three outfielders
selected to the team. Wright was named first team All-Ivy this season and was
voted the team's Most Valuable Player. Santomauro was selected first team
All-Ivy for the second consecutive season and given the best offensive player
award by his teammates.
Junior Michael Pagliarulo (Winchester, Mass.) had a breakout season for the Big Green and was named to the All-New England Second Team at first base. He also was voted Dartmouth's most improved player and earned a first team All-Ivy selection for the first time in his career.
