Dartmouth Swimming and Diving is proud to welcome a strong incoming freshmen class to Hanover for the 2008-2009 season. The class of 2012 is highly enthusiastic and deep with talent.
Nine women will join the Big Green in September. New York State high school record holder Caitlin Nicholson (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Kamai (Corte Madera, Calif.), will add strength and speed to the Dartmouth sprinters, who placed 4th last year at Ivies in the 200 free relay. Distance swimmer and three-time state CIF champion Stephanie Cobau (Whittier, Calif.), gives the Big Green depth in freestyle events of 200 yards and up. Nicholson will join four-time All-American and Junior National qualifier Kelsey Pinson (Portland, Ore.), Kendall Weikert (Orinda, Calif.), and Tara Henn (Lawrenceville, N.J.) as a strong butterfly contingent. Junior National backstroker Galen Barry (Wayne, Pa.) and versatile IM specialist Caitlin Keenan (Encintas, Calif.) will help the Big Green in several events. Three-time high school All-American diver and runner-up in the New Jersey high school state championships, Erica Serpico (Moorestown, N.J.), will greatly impact Dartmouth's diving strength.
The Dartmouth men add 15 to their roster in 2008. The 12's are deep with sprint speed. Former YMCA National Champion Paul Collins (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), John Hill (Erie, Pa.), and Marcelo Menezes (Lebanon, N.H.) will all contribute to sprint events and Dartmouth relays. As Nassau County, N.Y. record holder in the 100 backstroke, Michael Ahern (Old Westbury, N.Y.) will lend backstroke speed and be joined by Alex Kamai (Corte Madera, Calif.) and Jack Funk (Decatur, Ill.). Michael Randall (Dallas, Texas) will balance the field, contributing to Dartmouth's deep distance corps. Florida high school state runner up and Junior National qualifier Matt Stumpf (Palm Harbor, Fla.) is the fastest breaststroker coming in to Dartmouth in several years with potential to score big at EISL's as a freshman, with speed in IM events as well. Other breaststrokers Jack Driessen (Ridgefield, Conn.), J.P. Gorham (Hollis, N.H.), and Jacob Ritter (Rosalia, Kan.) will infuse much needed strength in that event and the medley relays. Ray Li (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), Zak Clare-Salzler (Gainesville, Fla.), and Ben Driver (Sudbury, Mass.) bring speed and versatility as IM'ers with strength in fly and breaststroke as well. Two-time high school diving All-American Chris Plante (Valrico, Fla.) will continue to build on Dartmouth's strong diving tradition on both one and three meter boards.
Head Coach, Jim Wilson is elated about the incoming 12's, stating: “This is the strongest incoming class of men and women we've seen at Dartmouth in many years. This class gives us the chance to make a move up the Ivy League ladder in the standings and is just a prelude to the increased competitiveness that swimming and diving will put forth in the years to come.”
