McHenry's Overtime Tally Sends Dartmouth Past Brown

HANOVER, N.H. ? Sophomore Kelly McHenry (Williamsburg, Va.) gave the Dartmouth field hockey its first win of the season with an overtime game-winner which sent the Big Green past Brown, 5-4, in Ivy League action.

For Brown (1-6, 0-2 Ivy), sophomore Katie Hyland tallied two goals and added an assist, while classmate Tacy Zysk and freshman Leslie Springmeyer each had a goal in the defeat.

Dartmouth (1-5, 1-1 Ivy) spread the wealth with five different goal scorers, including senior co-captain Kristen McCormick (Stoughton, Mass.), who tallied her first college goal.

Brown got on the board first as Springmeyer drove home a pass on a penalty corner from Hyland for the first score of the afternoon.

The Big Green answered right back with three goals in a span of five minutes to take a 3-0 lead into the half.

Sophomore Katie Nice (Hanover, N.H.) got things started with her first of the season with 4:55 left in the first half. Freshman Kelly Hood (Berlin, N.H.) gave Dartmouth its first lead of the game at 2-1, 1:45 following Nice's tally. Hood took a shot off of a penalty corner that was saved, but she kept with the play and fired it home for the 2-1 lead.

The Big Green was not done yet. Sophomore Rebecca Sobel (Larchmont, N.Y.) scored her first of the season as well, receiving an assist from sophomore Kerry Bracco (Hampton Falls, N.H.).

In the second half, Zysk put the Bears back into the game with her first of the season. Dartmouth, however, came right back and got the lead back up to two on McCormick's goal. She took a pass from sophomore Virginia Peisch (Koenigstein, Germany), which she adjusted for, then pounded a shot past the Brown netminder to give Dartmouth a 4-2 advantage.

Hyland brought the Bears back into the game with back-to-back goals with both coming on penalty corners. The final goal came with 54 seconds remaining in the half to force overtime.

The Big Green earned the overtime victory, five minutes into the extra session when Hines charged into the circle, baiting the goaltender, and then found McHenry and she was able to chip it over the goaltender's pads for the win.

Freshman Meagan Vakiener (Port Murray, N.J.) earned the win, making two saves. Senior Jordan Sedlacek (Golden, Colo.) saw some time and made three saves.

Dartmouth will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as Holy Cross comes to Hanover for a 2 p.m. start at Chase Field.
