HANOVER, N.H.- The Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team picked up a 168-132 win over Vermont this afternoon at Karl Michael pool.
The victory was a team effort for the Big Green women, who are fresh off their winter training trip and preparing for the bulk of the 2008-09 campaign.
Senior Heather Jankins (Raynham, Mass.) was the star of the day for the Big Green, winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.16, the 200 breaststroke in 2:26.91 and was part of the 200 yard medley relay that won in 1:50.43. Also in that winning race was Galen Barry (Wayne, Pa.), Kelsey Pinson (Portland, Ore.) and Elizabeth Kamai (Corte Madera, Calif.). Jankins also took second in a thrilling 50 yard freestyle in a time of 25.04, just .02 off the lead.
Other Dartmouth winners included Virginia Selden (Birmingham, Ala.) in the 200 butterfly in 2:09.17, Pinson in the 100 butterfly in 59.15, and Barry in the 400 IM in 4:43.97. Caitlin Keenan (Encitas, Calif.) was just behind her in 5:52.56.
Maddie Steiner (Dallas, Texas) took second in the 200 freestyle in 1:54.65 while Barry was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.93.
On the diving boards, rookie Erica Serpico (Moorestown, N.J.) continued her dominance, cruising to victory in the one and three meter events.
Dartmouth is back in action this Saturday, Jan. 17 when it hosts Ivy foes Yale and Penn starting at 10 a.m.
