BOSTON - The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team took a tough loss to Boston University, 159-130 at the end of a busy week this afternoon in Boston.
Dartmouth raced Yale and Penn yesterday before the quick turnaround to today's meet. The Big Green drops to 0-8 with the loss.
The Dartmouth men dominated the 100 individual medley with captain Andrew Ballentine (Pendleton, Ind.) leading the way in 55.47. Marcho Chu (Newton, Mass.) was behind hin in 56.07, followed by freshmen Jack Driessen (Ridgefield, Conn.) in 56.53 and Zak Clare-Salzler (Gainesville, Fla.) in 59.08. The Big Green took first through third in the 200 freestyle relay with the team of Chu, Hill, Scott Sorensen (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and Chris Koppel (Wilmington, Del.) fininishing first in 1:29.50.
Freshman sprinter Michael Ahern (Old Westbury, N.Y.) won both the 50 backstroke in 25.09 and 100 backstroke in 52.81 and took second in the 50 freestlye in 22.13. Junior Cary Stathopoulos (New York, N.Y.) won the 1000 freestyle in 10:03.13 and Jonathan Panzl (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) finished third in 10:12.19 while John Hill (Erie, Pa.) was second in both the 200 freestyle in 1:45.10 and the 500 freestyle in 4:48.91
Dartmouth took first and second in the 1 meter, with top honors going to Chris Plante (Valrico, Fla.) with 313.73 points and second to Michael Brown (Newton, Mass.) with 271.88. In the 3 meter, Brown finished second with 341.78 points and Plante third with 291.15.
The Big Green returns to action this Sunday, Jan. 25 at Princeton.
