? Sophomore Amanda Trunzo (Andover,
Minn.) netted a career-high four
goals to lead the ninth-ranked Big Green women's hockey team to an 8-4 win over
Rensselaer in ECAC Hockey action on Friday night.
For Dartmouth (13-6-2, 10-3-2
ECAC Hockey), Trunzo became the first Dartmouth
skater to record four goals since junior Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.)
netted four in 2006. Freshman Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.) tallied two goals
and added two assists, while classmate Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.)
scored two of her own and posted an assist.
Junior Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat,
Alta.) and senior Maggie Kennedy (West
Hartford, Conn.) handed
out a game-high three assists. In net, senior Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) tied
Kelley Coyne for third all-time in goaltending wins with 52 as she made 23
stops.
Rensselaer (12-11-2, 7-6-2
ECAC Hockey) had four different goal scorers with Whitney Naslund leading the
way with two points on a goal and an assist. Goaltender Sonja van der Bliek
made 29 saves in three-plus periods of play, while Emily Ford made three stops
in relief.
Rensselaer took the first
lead of the game on a power play goal from Allysen Wiedner with 4:10 remaining
in the opening period. Jamie-Lynn Stewart and Nicole McDonald were credited
with the assists.
Dartmouth
had only one opportunity on the power play and got four shots on net, but
couldn't capitalize. The Big Green's best chance came before the penalty as
senior Shannon Bowman (Leamington, Ont.) rang
one of the post.
The Engineers posted a 12-9 advantage in shots after one
period of play.
Foley evened the game up for the Big Green in its first
opportunity on the man advantage in the second frame. It came 2:17 into the
period with the assists going to Cunningham and Fischer. With the goal, Foley
extended her goal-scoring streak to five games, which is a team-high.
Fischer gave the Big Green its first lead of the game two
minutes later with 16:02 left in the period. Cunningham assisted on the play
for her second of the evening and senior Katie Gray (Calgary, Alta.) was credited with her fourth
helper of the year.
Rensselaer tied it at 2-2 midway
through the second period on a goal by Jill Vandergrift with the assists going
to Sydney O'Keefe and Laura Gersten.
Dartmouth got the lead back
two minutes after Rensselaer tied the score. Trunzo
tallied her team-leading 12th of the season on the power play. Kennedy and
Bowman assisted on the play and for Bowman the helper extended her point streak
to a season-high eight games.

Trunzo gave Dartmouth
a 4-2 lead with Kennedy and Bowman assisting on the goal.
Dartmouth
dominated in the second period, outshooting the Engineers, 20-5, and the Big
Green went 4-for-5 on the power play.
Fischer gave the Big Green more insurance in the third
period to make it 5-2 in favor of Dartmouth
with her second of the night. The score came 4:17 into the final period with
Foley assisting on the goal for her second point of the night.
Trunzo netted her second career hat trick and second of the
season with a goal coming with nine minutes left in the game with the assist
going to Kennedy for her second helper of the night. Five minutes later Trunzo
made it 7-2 with her fourth of the night and third on the power play with the
assists going to senior Julia Bronson (Arlington,
Va.) and Parsons.
Rensselaer added it third
of the night on the power play as Naslund scored her first of the evening to
make it 7-3.
Foley closed out the scoring for the Big Green with her
second of the night, while Cunningham passed out her third assist and Fischer
added to her point total with a helper. Alisa Harrison cut the lead to 8-4 with
her first of the night for Rensselaer with the
assist going to Naslund.
Dartmouth
exploded for eight goals for the second time this season and it was the third time
the Big Green has had at least seven in the last four games. On the power play,
Dartmouth was 6-for-8
with the man advantage and the Big Green also outshot the Engineers, 38-25, in
the win.
The Big Green will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as Dartmouth travels to Union
for a 4 p.m. face-off at Messa Rink.
