Harvard opened the game with multiple scoring chances and the
Crimson caught the Big Green on their heels. Dartmouth took its first penalty with just
over four minutes into the game. The biggest opportunity came with a minute
remaining on the power play as Sarah Wilson received a long pass at the left
post, but Clemis sprawled across the crease and made a great save on the puck.
The Crimson had another breakaway opportunity as Harvard
cleared the puck off the boards in the defensive end and the puck found Wilson all alone at the blueline. She tried
to beat Clemis out in front of the crease, but the Dartmouth netminder was up for the challenge and
made one of her 15 first period saves.
Following the save from Clemis, Dartmouth got its first chance on the power
play with about nine minutes left. After a couple a shots, the Big Green took
its first lead of the game on Cunningham's sixth of the season. Bowman fired a
shot from the right circle that deflected off of Cunningham's stick and into
the net for the 1-0 advantage with eight minutes left in the first.
Dartmouth
increased its to 2-0 at the end of the period as Boehm tallied her second of
the season with the assist going to Newnam. Boehm followed a juicy rebound left
by a Newnam shot and knocked the puck out of midair and into the net.
The Big Green
finished the period by peppering Martin on a power play and after the Crimson
dominated the first 10 minutes, Dartmouth
evened it up in the final minutes and had two goals to show for it.
In the second period,
Harvard went on the power play with 12:30 left in the frame, but like all
season long the Big Green shut down the opposing man advantage opportunity
allowing no shots on net.
Dartmouth
added to its lead with about eight minutes left in the period with Cunningham
connecting on her second of the night. Newnam chipped the puck off the boards
at neutral ice then McMillan circled the puck in the corner and found a wide
open Cunningham in front and she beat Martin five hole to give the Big Green a
commanding 3-0 lead.
Dartmouth
turned the shot total around in the second period with a 16-8 advantage.
Harvard had a great chance to get back in the game with
11:25 left in the third period as Wilson
once again had an excellent chance to score, but Clemis continued to be on
between the pipes. Wilson
was wide open crashing the net and received a pass from the back boards. She
tried to stuff it home, but Clemis squared up and made the save to preserve the
shutout.
With the win, it was the first time Dartmouth shutout the Crimson in its own
building since 1994 when the Big Green won 2-0 in their fourth game of the season.
Dartmouth
earned a 34-31 shot advantage after being outshot in the opening period. The
Big Green also capitalized on one power play in four chances, while the Crimson
went without a man advantage goal in three opportunities.
Next up for Dartmouth is Yale
on Friday night down in New Haven,
beginning at 7 p.m., followed by a Saturday afternoon game at Brown.
