BREWSTER, Mass. — The Dartmouth men's golf team completed its fall season with an impressive third-place finish at the 75th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship that took place on Monday and Tuesday at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass. The Big Green finished at 15-over par (591), just nine strokes off the pace set by Connecticut, which shot a sizzling four-under 284 in the second and final round.
The Big Green led the field of 39 teams after the first round by shooting a 291 (+3) as a team, ahead of Central Connecticut State by just two strokes. Junior co-captain Davis Mullany posted the lowest round of the tournament with a five-under 67 on Monday, one of just two golfers to break 70 in the opening round, joining Worcester's Bob Bruso who carded a 69. Two other Big Green golfers ended the first day among the top 10, with sophomore Peter Williamson in a tie for fifth with an ever-par 72 and freshman James Pleat tied for eighth with a 73 (+1).
Mullany was beaten out for medalist honors by one stroke on Tuesday when Bryant's Jason Thresher made up six strokes by shooting a four-under 68, completing the tournament at three-under par. Williamson posted the low Dartmouth score of the second round by equaling his first-round score of even par; he finished tied for sixth overall. Pleat was just one stroke off his first-round score with a 74 to finish in a tie for 15th.
Rounding out the Dartmouth squad were senior Dan Egan with a 160 (81-79) and sophomore Teddy Overton with a 162 (79-83).
