Series Record: Dartmouth leads, 23-20-7.
The Big Green has held the advantage in recent years, winning the last five
straight including a 3-1 victory in New York last year. From 1996 to 2001 there
was a unique streak when the squads played to overtime in five of six meetings,
resulting in three ties and two Columbia wins. The squads first met on Nov. 5,
1960, a 1-0 Dartmouth victory.
This Time Out: #15 Dartmouth sits alone in first place in the Ivy League and is back at Burnham Field for the first time in 21 days to host Ivy foe Columbia on homecoming. At 1-2 in the Ivy League, Columbia has defeated Penn but lost to Princeton and #23 Brown in overtime. Including a 5-0-1 record this year, Dartmouth is 20-2-3 all-time at Burnham Field. This year the Big Green has seen 1,000+ fans per game and has given up only three goals on its home pitch.
Last Time Out: After opening Ivy play with a 4-2 win over Princeton in Hanover, the Dartmouth men hit the road for a tough stretch with games at Yale, Penn and South Florida. The Big Green won both Ivy contests, needing overtime and two goals from Lucky Mkosana (Bulwayo, Zimbabwe) to get past Yale, 2-1 on Oct. 10. It was more of a midfield battle at Penn on Oct. 18 when Dartmouth held the Quakers to only three shots in an 8-3 victory. Dartmouth got goals from three different sources including Mkosana, Bryan Giudicelli (Emerald Hills, Calif.) and Austin Bowers (Old Greenwich, Conn.). On Wednesday in Tampa, #8 South Florida prevailed 1-0 in a hard-fought battle between two top-20 programs.
Where We Rank: Dartmouth has moved up four slots in the NSCAA Coaches top-25, ranking 15th in the nation this week and third in the Northeast. College Soccer News has the Big Green at 17th nationally while the team returned to Soccer America's rankings at 18th.
Lucky Strikes: Dartmouth sophomore Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) has skaken a slow start to the season to move to second on the team in scoring with 14 points on six goals and four assists. Mkosana has scored at least one goal in four of the last five games. No Dartmouth player scored in the recent contest at South Florida. Daniel Keat still leads the team in scoring with 19 points on his impressive seven goals and five assists.
In the Record Books: Dartmouth's top scorers this season are also making their way into the program records. Craig Henderson (Wellington, New Zealand), who has 53 career points on 20 goals and 13 assists, ranks on three lists. His point total is tied for fifth all-time and he is one point out of fourth place. His 20 goals are tied for eighth all-time with seventh place at 21 and his 13 assists rank eighth. With 19 points, Daniel Keat (Wellington, New Zealand) is just one point away from ranking eighth (three players tied) on the single-season list. With 38 career points and 17 goals as just a sophomore, Lucky Mkosana is well on pace to own the Dartmouth record books. He is halfway to first place on the career goals and points lists and is currently one goal away from 10th on the career list.
Next Time Out: Dartmouth heads down to Ivy rival Harvard for a pivotal matchup on Halloween, Oct. 31 at 1:30 p.m. Overall, the Big Green plays three of its final four games on the road also including a trip to fellow Ivy heavyweight Brown to close the regular season on Nov. 15.
