HANOVER, N.H. - Both Dartmouth cross country teams were in action yesterday afternoon with the men taking fifth and the women finishing 12th at NCAA Regionals at Franklin Park in Boston.
The men ran their best race of the season with a fifth-place finish out of 36 teams earning 135 points. Syracuse won the team title with 55 points, followed by Iona with 59. The Big Green almost knocked off Columbia, who won Ivy Heps two weeks prior to the NCAA Regionals. Dartmouth fell just 10 points behind the Lions.
Senior Chris Zablocki (Essex, Conn.) was the top harrier with a 14th-place finish at 31:24 and is a candidate for selection to the NCAA Championships held at Indiana State next weekend. Sophomore Ethan Shaw (Falmouth, Maine), also had an outstanding race for Dartmouth coming in 19th with a time of 31:36. Junior Tom Robbins (Evanston, Ill.) was right behind Shaw at 31:52 to come in 23rd overall.
On the women's side, the Big Green finished 12th out of 35 teams with 398 points. Syracuse also took the women's title with 59 points. Providence was second in the team race with 70 points.
Sophomore Elizabeth Short (North Reading, Mass.) was the top runner for Dartmouth as she came in 38th place with a time of 23:24.
