HANOVER, N.H. ? It took just a little over two hours for the Dartmouth women's tennis team to down Quinnipiac University 7-0 at the Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion this afternoon. The Big Green improves to 3-6 on the season, while the Bobcats go to 2-4.
Dartmouth swept the doubles losing a total of two games in three matches. Junior tri-captain Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.) and sophomore Molly Scott (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) recorded their seventh-straight win at No. 1 doubles, and junior tri-captain Jesse Adler (WInnetka, Ill.) and freshman Carissa King (Charlotte, N.C.) earned their fourth-consecutive win at No. 2 doubles. Junior Julia Zak (Bernardsville, N.J.) paired with freshman Shelley Carpeni (New York, N.Y.) for an 8-0 victory at No. 3.
In singles, Winingham played No. 1 for the third time this year, as Scott sat out the singles, and was up 6-4, 3-0 when her opponent retired. Adler played No. 2 and downed 2008 NEC Rookie of the Year Adrienne Markson 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas) won in straight sets at No. 3, and King rolled 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Sophomore Ashley Mitchell (Charleston, S.C.) dispatched her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, while Zak put the final point on the board for the Big Green with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6.
Dartmouth returns to action at home against Wellesley on Saturday, February 28, at 12 noon.
