Dartmouth Women's Tennis Drops Match to Boston University

BOSTON, Mass. - Dartmouth had never defeated Boston University on the non-traditional tennis surface in BU's Track & Tennis Center and, in a match that lasted nearly 6 hours, BU maintained its home-court advantage with a 5-2 victory over the Big Green this afternoon.

Sophomore Molly Scott (Trabuco Cyn, Calif.) won at No. 1 singles and junior Carley Markovitz (So. Pasadena, Calif.) earned a victory at No. 5 singles for the Big Green's two points. Dartmouth falls to 0-3 while BU, hot off a 4-3 victory over Harvard two weekends ago, improves to 3-1.

Scott and junior tri-captain Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.) won an exciting match at No. 1 doubles, but the Terriers captured the doubles point 2-1. Junior tri-captain Jesse Adler (Winnetka, Ill.) and classmate Julia Zak (Bernardsville, N.J.) were edged 8-6 at No. 2 doubles, and the freshmen tandem of Carissa King (Charlotte, N.C.) and Shelley Carpeni (New York, N.Y.) fell at No. 3.

In singles Scott downed Stefanie Nunic, the Terriers' blue-chip freshman in a three-set battle, while at No. 2 Winingham lost a heart-breaker to Francine Whu 0-6, 6-2, 7-5. At No. 3 Adler fell 7-5, 6-3 to Croatian freshman Petra Santini, and Big Green sophomore Georgiana Smsyer (Houston, Texas) lost by a nearly identical score at No. 4 to the crafty Cori Lefkowith. Markovitz won in a third set super-breaker at No. 5 over the always tough Liz Corrao, while sophomore Ryan Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) fell 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 to Vanessa Steiner, the Terriers' former No. 2 player.

Dartmouth returns to action on Friday when the Big Green hosts the ECAC Championships at the Boss Tennis Center. We hope to see all our fans at this exciting event, which features all the Ivy League teams except Penn.
