HANOVER, N.H. ? Dartmouth dropped its fifth consecutive contest, falling to Brown, ranked 12th nationally, 14-8 in the Ivy League opener.
Kip Dooley (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Ari Sussman (New Haven, Conn.) led the Big Green (1-5) with two goals apiece. Andrew Feinberg paced Brown (5-1) with four goals and an assist while Kyle Hollingsworth and Thomas Muldoon added two goals each.
Jordan Burke recorded 10 saves in the winning effort in goal. Matt Chriss came in to relieve Burke in the final quarter and made one stop. Fergus Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.) made 10 saves in his first start of the season.
Brown won 14 of the 25 face-offs on the afternoon while Dartmouth edged the Bears 33-31 in ground balls.
The Big Green got on the board as Sussman grabbed a ground ball and fired from six feet for his fourth goal of the season. Brown (5-1) responded quickly as Feinberg netted his first of four goals on the afternoon to tie it at one.
The Bears then strung together three more unanswered goals in just over two minutes to take the 4-1 lead at the 3:16 mark. Hollingsworth helped in all three of the goals, recording two assists and scoring his first goal of the game.
Christopher Root (Houston, Texas) cut the lead in half before the end of the quarter with his first goal of the season with 2:16 on the clock.
Muldoon pushed the lead to three at the 12:01 mark of the second quarter. 14 seconds later, Feinberg put home a pass from Hollingsworth to take the 6-2 lead.
Sussman juggled the ball through the defense in front of the net, corralling it long enough to net his second goal of the contest. Dooley fired from the left side, placing the ball above the left shoulder of Burke to put Dartmouth within two.
The teams traded the next two goals as Feinberg, assisted on a goal by Muldoon with 5:52 left in the half. Jimmy Mullen (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) responded quickly, recording his team-leading ninth goal of the season just 27 seconds later on the man advantage.
That was as close as Dartmouth would get for the remainder of the game. Brown rallied off four more unanswered goals, pushing the lead to 11-5 before Philip Killian (Washington, D.C.) scored his first goal of the season with 10:50 left in the game. The Bears then added three more to take a 14-6 lead with just 3:24 remaining. Brian Koch (Rye, N.Y.) added his ninth goal of the season while in the man-up situation, tying Mullen for the team lead. Dooley rounded out the scoring with an unassisted tally with nine seconds left.
Dartmouth returns to action Tuesday, March 24 as the Big Green travel to Holy Cross for a 6:30 contest.
