HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's tennis team downed the University of Pennsylvania 5-2 this afternoon at the Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion, marking head coach
Bob Dallis' first victory over the Quakers. The Big Green improves to 8-10 (2-1 Ivy League), while the Quakers are now 1-13 overall (0-4 Ivy League).
The Green took the doubles point for the second consecutive match. Sophomore
Molly Scott (Trabuco Cyn, Calif.) and junior
Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.) won easily at No. 1. Junior
Julia Zak (Bernardsville, N.J.) and sophomore
Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas) battled back from a 6-3 deficit to clinch the point with an 8-6 victory at No. 3 while
Jesse Adler (Winnetka, Ill.) and
Carissa King (Charlotte, N.C.) were edged 9-7 at No. 2.
At No. 1 singles, Scott dropped just one game against Ekaterina Kosminskaya,. Winingham also made quick work of her opponent at No. 2, besting Maria Anisimova 6-3, 6-0. Adler was narrowly defeated in a third-set super-breaker by Sadaka., At No. 4, Smyser pushed Alexa Ely to three sets. Sophomore
Ryan Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and junior
Carley Markovitz (South Pasadena, Calif.) put the final two points on the board for the Big Green with straight set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Reichel downed Jacqueline Wong 7-6, 6-1, while Markovitz defeated freshman Emily Wolf 6-4, 6-2.
Dartmouth returns to action at home against Princeton tomorrow at 12 noon.
