Putney Paces Big Green men's golf on First Day of New England Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. ? Junior Dave Putney's (Unionville, Conn) first-round score of 74 puts him two strokes behind the pace in the 2009 New England Division I Championships. He is tied for eighth overall.
Putney led the Dartmouth team as it ended the day tied for sixth with a score of 308. The Big Green are 15 strokes behind leader Sacred Heart.
Pete Williamson (Hanover, N.H.) and Rob Henley (Longmeadow, Mass.) each shot an opening-round score of 77, putting them in 17th place overall. Senior Alex Abate (Augusta, Ga.) posted a score of 80 while Ryan Choi (Carlsbad, Ca.) recorded a score of 85 through the first 18 holes to round out the Dartmouth team.
Pat Fillian of Sacred Heart and Conor Malloy of Brown entered the clubhouse tied for the tournament lead with rounds of 72, par for the course.
Second round play will resume tomorrow, April 11.
