NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Sophomore Molly Scott (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) got wins in singles and doubles with junior tri-captain Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.), but those were the only points the Dartmouth women's tennis team scored in a 6-1 loss to No. 44 Yale yesterday. The Big Green moves to 8-12 (2-3 Ivy League), while the Bulldogs are now 14-5 (5-1 Ivy League) and one win away from clinching their second consecutive Ivy League title.
The Big Green nearly captured the doubles point as Scott and Winingham downed Yale's top duo of Lindsay Clark and Vicky Brook. Junior tri-captain Jesse Adler (WInnetka, Ill.) and sophomore Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas) fell at No. 2 to the 2008 All-Ivy team of Janet Kim and Jesse Rhee, and junior Julia Zak (Bernardsville, N.J.) and freshman Carissa King (Charlotte, N.C.) were nipped 9-7 at No. 3 doubles by Sarah Lederhandler and Stevi Petrelli.
At No. 1 singles Scott downed Janet Kim, the 2008 Ivy League Player of the Year, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. And sophomore Ryan Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) pushed Sarah Lederhandler to a tie-breaker in the first set at No. 6 singles but ultimately fell 7-6, 6-1.
Dartmouth returns to action tomorrow against Brown at 12 noon at the Boss Tennis Center. If you can't be there to cheer on the Big Green in person, watch the live webcast at: http://tinyurl.com/dartmouth10s-webcasts or follow live score updates on Twitter at: http://twitter.com/Dartmouth10s_w
