Pagliarulo Latest Ivy Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. ? For the third time in four weeks, a Dartmouth baseball player has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week. Big Green senior first baseman Mike Pagliarulo (Winchester, Mass.), who earned the honor for the second time in his career, was the recipient of the award for the week ending April 20.

Pagliarulo hit .381 (8-for-21) with four home runs and 11 RBIs in his five games on the field. He also had a double, four walks and was hit by two pitches while slugging an even 1.000 for the week.

The son of the former major leaguer of the same name began the week with a 2-for-6 day, including a solo homer for his first four-bagger of the season, in a 13-3 victory over Vermont. In the lone loss of the week, 4-1 at Yale, he was the only Big Green hitter to reach base twice.

In the last three games against the Bulldogs, Pagliarulo homered in each one. First he belted a solo shot and drove in two runs to help Dartmouth rally from an early 7-1 deficit in a 12-9 victory, then cranked a three-run shot in the first inning and tied a career high with four RBIs in a 13-2 triumph. Pagliarulo capped his week by launching a grand slam in the series finale for his second straight game four-RBI performance as Dartmouth overwhelmed the Elis, 17-8.

For the season, Pagliarulo is hitting .343 with his four home runs and 26 RBIs in 27 games. He also leads the team with 11 doubles and is second on the team in OPS at 1.042. In the 16 Ivy League games, Pags is hitting .356 with six doubles, three homers and 21 RBIs.

Other Big Green players to earn player of the week honors this season were junior outfielder Nick Santomauro (North Caldwell, N.J.) and freshman shortstop Joe Sclafani (Palm City, Fla.).

The Big Green (19-11), winners of 18 of their last 20 games, are back in action this afternoon at Vermont (10-21) for a contest at 3:30 p.m.
