HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team hosts Providence this Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a non-conference matchup at Scully-Fahey Field.
THIS TIME OUT
The Big Green steps out of Ivy League play for a midweek matchup against Providence at Scully-Fahey Field on Tuesday. Dartmouth enters this afternoon's contest with a 2-7 record overall and a 0-2 mark in conference play. Providence travels up to Hanover with a 5-4 record and a 4-0 mark in MAAC action. The Friars are coming off a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory against Saint Joseph's to win its fifth-straight contest.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green and Quakers alternated goals throughout the first half, but Penn took a two-goal lead to start the third quarter and never looked back as the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team fell, 9-6, in Ivy League action on Friday afternoon. Dartmouth had six different goal scorers, including freshman Kip Dooley who led the team with a goal and an assist for two points. Junior Casey Hingtgen netted a goal in his first appearance of the season. Freshman Fergus Campbell gave the Big Green his best effort with 13 saves, which gave him double-digit saves in three-consecutive starts.
ROOKIE SAVE-IOR
Campbell was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week on March 30 after earning his first collegiate victory on March 24 at Holy Cross with 13 saves. He followed that up with a career-high 17 saves against 10th-ranked Duke on Saturday. He did a great job keeping the Big Green within striking distance throughout the game, but fourth quarter goals gave the Blue Devils the win. Campbell leads the league in saves per game, averaging 11 a game in three games.
SENIOR LEADERSHIP
Seniors Tim Daniels, Brian Koch and Jimmy Mullen are the Big Green's leading point-getters as Mullen and Koch are tops with 15 points apiece. Koch leads the team with 13 goals, four on man-up situations, and has added two assists, while Mullen has 12 goals and three helpers. Daniels has posted eight goals and six helpers for 14 points and leads the team with 37 ground balls. He is also the primary man in the X with 53 wins in 104 opportunities.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
Senior Bobby Labadini leads Providence in all three offensive categories with 20 goals and 12 assists for 32 points this season. He has just one man-up and man-down goal this year. Junior Colin Tigh is one of the Friars' top players with 13 goals and seven assists for 20 points. He is second on the team in ground balls with 21 and has won 13 face-offs this year. At the X, sophomore Mike Bowler has been the most consistent player for Providence with 24 wins in 47 opportunities. The Friars have had eight different players take face-offs this season. In front of the cage, senior Robert Bryan has started all nine games for the Friars with five victories and four losses. He has posted 98 saves for a .609 save percentage and has a 7.63 goals against average. He also leads the team with 23 ground balls.
SERIES HISTORY
Tuesday will be the fifth meeting between these two New England schools with Dartmouth holding a perfect 4-0 record in the series. The first meeting was back in 1995 with the Big Green dominating the Friars with a 21-5 win. In the four games, Dartmouth has averaged 14.25 goals per game. In the last meeting, the Big Green squeezed out a 6-4 win in 2007 at Scully-Fahey Field.
