HANOVER, N.H. - Senior Jimmy Mullen (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) and junior Casey Hingtgen (Carlsbad, Calif.) were both selected to the 2009 Turfer/NEILA All-New England Team on Tuesday with Mullen earning first team honors, while Hingtgen was put on the second team.
For Hingtgen it is his second post season honor as he was named second team All-Ivy last week as a defender. Hingtgen was hobbled by a leg injury early in the season, playing in only one game in the first eight contests for the Big Green before starting the final seven games of the season. He finished with one goal, which came against Penn in a 9-6 loss, and 16 ground balls. He was also called to the X four times, winning two face-offs. The score against Penn opened the scoring for Dartmouth in the first quarter and its was one of only two goals that long-stick defenders scored this season for the Big Green.
Mullen was a key player for the Big Green at midfield all season long and with junior Ari Sussman (New Haven, Conn.) out in the first part of the season, he had to step up and provide offense for Dartmouth. Mullen finished with 15 goals and three assists for 18 points this season. He was named Ivy League Player of the Week back on Feb. 23. He scored four goals in the season opener against Hartford, including the game-winner with six seconds left in overtime to give the Big Green an 11-10 win. He carried the offense with six goals and an assist in the first three games and he ended up posting five multi-goal games.
