WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The No. 9 Dartmouth women's squash team dropped a close match on Sunday to No. 6 Stanford, 6-3.
The Big Green began with a win by Valeria Wiens at No. 1. She won her first two games, 11-8 and 13-11 before dropping her third, 9-11. She rebounded with an 11-8 victory to take the match.
Corey Schaefer at No. 2 played one of her best matches of the season, despite losing, 3-1. Her scores were 11-7, 6-11, 7-11 and 8-11. At the third spot Becky Lau lost in three, 6-11, 15-17 and 7-11 while Hannah Connant was victorious at No. 4, winning 3-1. Her scores were 12-10, 9-11, 11-8 and 11-4.
Libbey Brown won her fifth match of the season with a 3-0 defeat of her opponent at No. 5. Her scores were 11-9, 11-4 and 11-8. In the sixth spot Sarah Loucks dropped her match in three as did Maura Doherty and Julia Watson. In the ninth spot, Elizabeth Weintraub was able to force her opponent to a fourth game but dropped the match.
The Big Green will be back in action on Feb. 6 and 7 with two Ivy League matches and one nonconference. Princton and Penn will make their way to Hanover as will Mt. Holyoke in a non-Ivy matchup.
