PRINCETON, N.J. - Dartmouth rookie Marina Moschitto (Andover, Mass.) scored in an Ivy game for the second straight week, but the Big Green women's soccer team surrendered a second-half goal in a 2-1 loss at Princeton.
Princeton (6-3, 2-0 Ivy) avenged last season's 2-1 overtime loss to Dartmouth (3-5-1, 1-1 Ivy) with two goals by Caitlin Blosser, one in each half.
The game was tightly contested, with the teams combining for more fouls, 19, than shots, 14, during the 90 minutes. Princeton held the slight advantage in shots, 8-6, and corner kicks, 3-2.
As the offense was hard to come by, the goalkeepers were not tested much. Dartmouth's Colleen Hogan (Houston, Texas) made just one save, coming in the 88th minute, while Princeton's Kristin Watson made two including a game-saver in the 85th.
The Tigers struck first, taking the 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when Blosser got her first goal of the game. Dianne Metcalf-Leggette played the ball out of the back to Blosser who had a clear look to slip one past Hogan.
The Big Green persevered and got the important game-tying goal just before the half, striking in the 43rd minute to make it a 1-1 game. Freshman Chrissy Lozier (Fairfield, Conn.) played the ball across the box to Moschitto, who fired a rocket into the goal.
The teams each took just two shots in the first half and went into halftime tied.
Princeton came out pushing for a goal in the second half, taking five of their six shots in the first 13 minutes before Blosser capitalized on a defensive miscue to take the 2-1 lead in the 58th. Blosser recovered the loose ball in the box and knocked home the eventual winner.
Dartmouth had its chances to get the winner while Princeton locked down defensively with the lead. Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.) put two shots wide and Aurelia Solomon (Washington, D.C.) came up with the best chance in the 85th, forcing Watson to make a big save.
Hogan kept the game in reach with her lone save off a Jen Hoy shot in the 88th, but Dartmouth was unable to get the equalizer.
The Big Green is back at home this coming Saturday, Oct. 9, hosting Yale at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs fell to Harvard today and are in search of their first Ivy win.
